ECO CLUB

At the beginning of this year, 2024, Jane, one of the founders of The Forest School Way, started an Eco Cub with year 8 boys from William Ellis - an inner London state school. The Eco Club has been a huge success and covered many topics. The boys have been learning all about climate change and biodiversity loss and what we can do to help, like rewilding the school grounds. Bird boxes, bird feeders & a frog hibernaculum have been constructed and installed. Apple trees and native hedgerows have been planted along with the installation of a huge wildlife pond. The students joined in with the RSPB school's big bird count and learned about other local wildlife with visits from the nearby charity Heath Hands. Trips included visiting the sustainability festival Earthfest and Southwark Recycling Centre. And not forgetting their bushcraft days - making campfires, cooking and eating wildfood and woodcarving days with Peter Houghton (co-founder of The Forest School Way).

The boys have also been awarded The John Muir Award. The project is ongoing so watch this space!

Funding awarded for the project - Thank you to Veolia Sustainability Fund.

Thanks also to the biodiversity charity Growing Green London for helping with the plans.
